Useful information

Hammerfest Parkering KF operates parking spaces in the city centre, residential areas and parking garages. Parking fees and regulations vary from location to location. It is always the driver’s responsibility to check the signage where the vehicle is parked.

How parking is regulated in Hammerfest

Parking in Hammerfest is regulated through signage and local regulations. The main distinction is between:

  • Public roads (street parking)
  • Parking areas off the public road
  • Parking garage

The applicable regulation is always indicated by signage on site.

Public road (blue parking signs)

Parkingskilt med blå bakgrunn og hvit P

Street parking along public roads is marked with a white P on a blue background (sign 552).

In the city centre, the paid parking period is usually:

  • Weekdays: 08:00 – 17:00
  • Saturday: 08:00 – 15:00

Some spaces may have a maximum parking time. This is indicated on supplementary signs.

Parking areas off the public road (white signs)

Parkingskilt med hvit bakgrunn og sort P

Parking areas outside the public road are marked with a black P on a white background.

These areas may have:

  • Different payment periods
  • Different rates
  • Specific conditions

Always read the information sign on site.

Parking zone in the city centre

The entire city centre is designated as a parking zone.

Unless otherwise indicated by signage, parking is prohibited during:

  • Weekdays: 08:00 – 17:00
  • Saturday: 08:00 – 14:00

Exceptions are indicated by signage.

Payment and parking machines

Most parking machines accept:

  • Coins
  • Card (Visa and Mastercard)

You can also pay using the EasyPark app.

A malfunctioning machine does not automatically give the right to free parking. The telephone number for reporting faults is displayed on the machine.

Enforcement and penalties

If parking regulations are violated, you may receive:

  • Parking sanction
  • Parking penalty charge

Rates and regulations are described in more detail on a separate page.

Vehicle removal

Vehicles that obstruct traffic, violate regulations, or repeatedly breach parking rules may be removed.

Special vehicles

There are specific rules for certain vehicle types and parking schemes, including:

  • Electric vehicles and charging
  • Motorcycles
  • Persons with disabilities (accessible parking)
  • Resident parking

See the relevant pages under “Parking”.

Enforcement on private property

Hammerfest Parkering KF may enter into agreements to operate and enforce parking regulations on privately owned parking areas, such as housing associations and commercial properties.

In such areas, the parking conditions stated on the information signs on site apply. Parking may be reserved for specific groups and may not necessarily be open to the general public, even if the area is enforced by Hammerfest Parkering KF.

If you would like parking enforcement on a private property, please contact us for an assessment and quotation.
