Accessible parking

With a valid parking permit for persons with disabilities, you may:

  • Park in designated accessible parking spaces
  • Park in public paid parking spaces without paying
  • Park beyond the time limit in public parking spaces
  • Park in residential zones when the driver or passenger carries a valid parking permit

The parking permit is personal and must be clearly displayed in the windscreen.

Apply for a parking permit

Parking permits for persons with disabilities are issued upon application in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Who can receive a permit?

A permit may be granted to:

  • Drivers of a motor vehicle who are unable to walk or have significant difficulty moving over longer distances and therefore have a particular need for parking concessions.
  • Passengers who regularly require assistance outside the vehicle and who have similar mobility challenges.

Both of the following must be documented:

  • Reduced mobility
  • A specific need for parking at the place of residence, work or other activities

The application must describe specific locations where parking difficulties are experienced, including address and frequency of use.

How to apply

The application with the required documentation must be sent to Hammerfest Parkering KF.

The application form can also be collected from Hammerfest Parkering KF, Strandgata 49.

The following documentation must be attached to the application

  • Medical certificate not older than 3 months (Form K-700393)
  • Copy of driving licence (for applicants who are the driver)
  • One photograph

Applications with missing documentation will not be processed.

Application processing

The application is assessed by a committee consisting of a doctor, a representative from the Council for Persons with Disabilities and Hammerfest Parkering KF.

A response is normally provided within three weeks after the committee meeting, in accordance with the Public Administration Act. In periods of high demand, processing time may be longer.

Parking permits are normally granted for 2–5 years.

  • 19 March
  • 23 April
  • 4 June
The application must be registered no later than 14 days before the meeting.

Appeal

You may submit an appeal if your application is rejected. Information about the appeal procedure will be included in the decision letter.

Exemption from payment in parking garages

According to Section 33 of the Parking Regulations, persons with disabilities are exempt from payment in parking garages.
